Kundli reading guide

How to understand your Kundli

A Kundli records the sky and several traditional reference points for a birth moment. Read the input summary first, then the D1 chart and Positions table. The remaining sections answer more specialised questions.

Start with three checks

  1. Confirm the birth details. Check Born, Place, UTC offset, Ayanamsa, Rahu and Ketu, and Time given as. The optional name labels the chart and printout; it does not change the calculation.
  2. Find the lagna and Moon. The Sun, Moon and rising signs are separate references. The lagna anchors D1 houses. The Moon supplies the birth nakshatra and the starting Vimshottari period.
  3. Read one Positions row. Keep sign, degree, house, nakshatra, pada, Navamsa and dignity separate. The layout guide explains the diagram and all its marks.

For a new chart, use Compute chart after selecting a place or supplying coordinates. Correct the form and submit again when an input is wrong. Begin with birth-time accuracy if the record or local clock is uncertain.

Birth-day Panchang

The Birth day section gives tithi, paksha, Nitya Yoga and karana at the birth moment. Nitya Yoga is different from a named natal combination such as Gajakesari.

Vaar follows the sunrise-based day. For a birth before sunrise, it can differ from the civil weekday in Born. Sunrise and sunset bound that sunrise-based day, so the listed sunrise can be on the preceding civil date. At high latitudes, missing rise or set events can make dependent results unavailable. See why sunrise matters and why location matters.

Lunar month and ritu

Masa (amanta) and Purnimanta name the lunar month under two boundaries. Different names can refer to the same instant. The lunar-month guide lists the months and explains adhika, the intercalary month.

Here Ritu groups the amanta month into a calendar season:

Ritu Months
Vasanta Chaitra, Vaishakha
Grishma Jyeshtha, Ashadha
Varsha Shravana, Bhadrapada
Sharad Ashwin, Kartika
Hemanta Margashirsha, Pausha
Shishira Magha, Phalguna

These are calendar classifications, not observations of local weather. The Purnimanta label does not independently change the displayed Ritu.

Birth-day windows

Hora identifies a planetary hour and its number within the day or night sequence. It is separate from D2 Hora and Hora lagna.

The windows table gives Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda, Gulika and Abhijit when available. They belong to that sunrise-based day and the displayed clock zone. Abhijit is omitted on Wednesdays under this convention. A birth inside a window is not a verdict about the person.

Missing results

A blank is not always zero. Nodes have no individual transit bindus; an outer planet has no D9 or dignity field here; the friendship diagonal omits self-comparison; Pitrikaraka is blank in the seven-karaka scheme. Sunrise-dependent points can be unavailable.

“No yoga detected” concerns the supported rules, not every traditional combination. A failed dasha expansion is a retrieval problem, not the absence of periods. Close and reopen the branch to retry; recompute if it still fails.

The Print button opens the browser's print flow. Choose Save as PDF if the browser provides it. Worksheet blocks expand for printing, but dasha branches follow their expansion state. Open the desired branches and inspect the preview before saving. The printout retains its transit timestamp; it is not a live report.

Returning to a chart

Guide links on the chart open in a new tab. Return to the original chart tab to continue with the same chart and expanded sections.

The site does not provide an account or saved-chart library. Opening a guide's Kundli link opens the form, without embedding birth details. Re-entering the details recomputes the chart and refreshes current transits. The browser remembers chart style separately; browser history and a saved PDF remain under the browser's control.

For a quick Panchang orientation, the existing reading guide and interpretation guide cover the daily dashboard.

Follow a worked example

The two-layout example starts with three useful checks: Taurus lagna, Capricorn Sun and Aries Moon. It then follows the Sun from D1 house 9 into Sripati chalit house 10 without changing its Capricorn sign. This is a reading exercise with fictional birth inputs, not a personality or event forecast.

See the chart and its tables on the Kundli page.
