Graha drishti: planetary aspects in Kundli
Graha drishti is a traditional planetary aspect. The table lists the whole-sign houses receiving each graha's full aspects under the selected convention.
Count inclusively: a graha's occupied sign is first. The seventh aspect reaches the opposite sign. The column Aspects houses then translates those receiving signs into houses counted from the natal lagna.
Aspects used here
| Graha | Counts from its occupied sign |
|---|---|
| Sun, Moon, Mercury, Venus | 7th |
| Mars | 4th, 7th, 8th |
| Jupiter | 5th, 7th, 9th |
| Saturn | 3rd, 7th, 10th |
| Rahu, Ketu | 5th, 7th, 9th in this tool's convention |
Node aspects are disputed among traditions. These rows state the convention actually used here, not a universal agreement. The outer planets are excluded from this table.
A counting example
For a schematic Cancer-lagna chart with Mars in Libra, Mars occupies house 4. Its fourth, seventh and eighth aspects reach Capricorn, Aries and Taurus, which are houses 7, 10 and 11 from lagna. The table therefore lists 7, 10, 11, not 4, 7, 8.
An aspect cast by Mars is different from an aspect received by Mars. Two grahas need not aspect each other symmetrically when special aspects are involved.
Separate aspect systems
Rashi drishti uses sign classes instead of these graha-specific counts. Drishti in the Shadbala table is an aspect-strength quantity, not another list of receiving houses.
A listed aspect establishes a relationship under the rule. Its traditional interpretation still depends on the graha's nature, condition, lordship and the rest of the chart.
