Special lagnas in Kundli
Special lagnas are calculated reference points. They do not replace the natal lagna, the zodiac point rising on the eastern horizon at birth.
The table gives each point's sign, degree, longitude, house, nakshatra, pada and Navamsa. Here House counts from the natal D1 lagna. It does not turn that special point into the first house of the existing D1 diagram.
The four points
| Point | Abbreviation | Basis used here |
|---|---|---|
| Bhava lagna | BL | Advances from the Sun's sunrise position at one sign per two hours |
| Hora lagna | HL | Advances from that position at one sign per hour |
| Ghati lagna | GL | Advances from that position at one sign per 24 minutes |
| Sree lagna | SL | Advances natal lagna by the Moon's progress through its nakshatra, expressed over a full zodiac cycle |
The first three use the sunrise beginning the birth's sunrise-based day. A pre-sunrise birth therefore uses the preceding sunrise. Without a usable sunrise, these points can be absent.
The fixed advancement rates belong to these derived points. They do not mean that the actual horizon ascendant always rises at one sign every two hours; its rate depends on place and time.
A schematic comparison
Two hours after sunrise, Bhava lagna has advanced one sign, Hora lagna two signs and Ghati lagna five signs from the Sun's sunrise position. This example illustrates their different rates, not an independently computed birth chart.
Sree lagna instead depends on natal lagna and the Moon's fraction of a nakshatra. It is separate from Arudha lagna and does not require the same sunrise reference. A small time change can affect its fine placement.
Reading limits
These points provide additional traditional references; the page does not calculate prosperity, authority or another personal result from them. Hora lagna is distinct from both D2 Hora and the planetary hour. Bhava lagna is distinct from bhava chalit.
Start with natal lagna and the actual birth-time precision before comparing these additional positions.
