Panchang reference
What is Gulika Kaal?
Gulika Kaal (गुलिक काल) is a daily daylight window associated with Saturn in traditional timing practice.
panchang.now treats it as Avoid for new beginnings. Traditions differ in their use of Gulika; this classification describes the site's chosen convention, not a universal rule for every activity.
The weekday pattern
Daylight, from sunrise to sunset, is divided into eight equal parts. Gulika occupies the part shown below:
| Weekday | Part of daylight |
|---|---|
| Sunday | 7th |
| Monday | 6th |
| Tuesday | 5th |
| Wednesday | 4th |
| Thursday | 3rd |
| Friday | 2nd |
| Saturday | 1st |
The duration follows daylight length. The familiar 90-minute interval applies to a 12-hour day; the page uses the selected city's actual sunrise and sunset.
A worked example
For Delhi on Friday, 2 October 2026, Gulika occupies the second daylight part, 07:43-09:12. The same interval is Labh Choghadiya, labelled Good.
At 08:00, Now would read Avoid because Gulika takes priority. The Labh label remains Good: it belongs to the Choghadiya system, while the G badge marks the overlapping Gulika window.
Which Gulika this page describes
The daily time window is distinct from a Gulika position calculated in a birth chart. Reading the day's Gulika time does not describe a person's natal placement.
Rahu Kaal and Yamaganda are the other two Avoid windows in the dashboard's verdict rules.
