Rashi chart and bhava chalit

The rashi chart places planets in zodiac signs. In panchang.now's D1, those signs also define whole-sign houses. Bhava chalit reassigns house occupancy using house boundaries around the ascendant and meridian.

A planet can therefore occupy one D1 house and another chalit house while retaining the same longitude, sign and sign ruler. Chalit is a house view of the birth chart, not a seventeenth divisional chart.

The two presentations

With True Chitrapaksha or Lahiri, the page uses Sripati houses. Middle (madhya) is the house's central reference; Begins (sandhi) is the boundary where the house starts. A planet belongs to the interval between successive boundaries.

With KP selected, the page uses Placidus cusps as house beginnings. The Cusp, Sign and Lord columns identify each beginning and its sign ruler. A cusp in this presentation should not be read as the Sripati middle.

Unequal-house methods have limitations at extreme latitudes. An absent chalit result does not erase the zodiac positions or imply that a house is astrologically empty.

What remains unchanged

Dignity belongs to a graha's sign and relevant degree, not to the house number where its symbol appears. A planet does not become exalted merely because a house reassignment places it in the number associated with its exaltation sign.

Use the D1 whole-sign reference for the tool's yoga rules and house-placement guides unless a rule explicitly says otherwise. Do not transfer every house rule to chalit automatically.

The lagna guide explains the time-sensitive reference point. The house-lord guide distinguishes ownership from occupancy.

Worked comparison

In the fictional Delhi example, the lagna is Taurus and the Sun is about 24°14′ Capricorn. Capricorn is the ninth whole-sign house, so the D1 Sun belongs to house 9. The same longitude falls in house 10 under that chart's Sripati boundaries.

Mercury, at about 29°06′ Sagittarius, similarly belongs to D1 house 8 and Sripati house 9. Neither graha changes its zodiac sign. A sign-based dignity or conjunction must therefore still use its actual sign, not the sign number printed against the receiving chalit house.
