Manglik dosha: understanding the Mars check

Manglik, or Kuja dosha, is a traditional Mars-placement classification. The tool checks Mars in the 1st, 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th houses counted separately from lagna, Moon and Venus.

Schools differ over which references count and whether the first house belongs in the list. The result states the convention used here; it is not a compatibility score or a prediction of harm to a partner.

Read the three counts

The opening sentence gives Mars's house from each reference. A match from the Moon is not necessarily a match from lagna. The D1 House column still counts from lagna, so it can differ from one of these additional counts without contradiction.

The no-match sentence means that none of the three reference counts falls in the selected set. It does not assess every rule in every tradition.

Exceptions reported here

The sign-based exception uses this table:

Mars's relative house Exempting sign
2nd Gemini or Virgo
4th Aries or Scorpio
7th Cancer or Capricorn
8th Sagittarius or Pisces
12th Taurus or Libra

There is no sign-based first-house exception in this table. To report “Mars's sign exempts its house,” every reference that produced a match must satisfy the corresponding exception. Exempting only one count is not sufficient.

The other reported exceptions are Mars with Jupiter and Mars with the Moon, meaning they share a sign. These exceptions are listed alongside the placement; they do not remove the factual statement that Mars occupies the matched house.

A schematic example

With Cancer lagna and Mars in Capricorn, Mars is seventh from lagna and meets that reference's Capricorn exception. The Moon and Venus positions are still needed before deciding whether the sign exception applies to all matching references.

The page concerns one chart. It does not compare two people's charts, score a relationship, predict marriage timing or prescribe a remedy. See Mars and the reading method for the wider context.
