Panchang reference
What is Vaar?
Vaar (वार) is the weekday in Panchang, reckoned from sunrise to the following sunrise.
The seven weekdays have traditional planetary associations. The dashboard uses short Sanskrit names such as Shukra for Friday; longer forms such as Shukravar name the same weekday.
The seven names
| Dashboard name | Weekday / longer name | Associated planet |
|---|---|---|
| Ravi | Sunday / Ravivar (रविवार) | Sun |
| Soma | Monday / Somvar (सोमवार) | Moon |
| Mangala | Tuesday / Mangalvar (मंगलवार) | Mars |
| Budha | Wednesday / Budhvar (बुधवार) | Mercury |
| Guru | Thursday / Guruvar (गुरुवार) | Jupiter |
| Shukra | Friday / Shukravar (शुक्रवार) | Venus |
| Shani | Saturday / Shanivar (शनिवार) | Saturn |
What the weekday determines
The weekday selects which part of daylight belongs to Rahu Kaal, Yamaganda and Gulika. It also sets the starting names in the Choghadiya sequences and the planet of the first hora.
For Delhi on Friday, 2 October 2026, the row shows Shukra. The first daytime hora is Venus, and Friday's Rahu Kaal occupies the fourth of eight daylight parts.
Before sunrise
The clock date changes at midnight, but the Panchang day changes at sunrise. Before sunrise, today's live view retains the preceding Panchang day and displays a note. This is why the weekday shown there may differ from the phone's calendar date at that hour.
Selecting an explicit date opens the Panchang beginning at sunrise on that date. Why sunrise matters explains the distinction.
