Kundli guide

How to interpret a Kundli

A traditional Kundli reading combines several factors. A single planet in a sign or house is a starting observation, not a complete answer about a person. The chart tool calculates positions, periods and defined combinations; it does not calculate a life outcome from them.

A reading sequence

  1. Set the question and reference. Identify whether the rule concerns D1, a division, the Moon or a transit. Confirm the birth input and its uncertainty first.
  2. Identify the relevant house and lord. Keep the house topic, its occupant and its ruler separate. An empty house still has a ruler.
  3. Read the occupant's actual condition. Check sign, degree, dignity, motion, combustion and relevant aspects. One label does not replace the rest.
  4. Check the relationships. A conjunction, aspect or exchange can connect factors. Use the rule's stated reference point and qualifications.
  5. Separate natal and period context. A dasha is a traditional timing framework; a transit is a current position. Neither changes the natal longitude.
  6. State what is still unknown. Uncertain time, a disputed convention or omitted factors should limit the conclusion.

A worked fragment

Consider a schematic D1 with Cancer lagna and Mars at 8° Aries in the tenth house. This is an invented placement for explaining a reading, not a complete birth chart.

Observation Contribution to the reading
Mars in the tenth The traditional placement reading favours initiative, effective work and taking responsibility.
Mars in Aries Own-sign support strengthens the basis for decisive action. At 8°, the displayed dignity is Moolatrikona.
Mars rules the fifth and tenth for Cancer lagna Learning and judgment are connected with work through a shared ruler.
Mars is in a kendra with the required dignity The chart's positional conditions for Ruchaka are met. This is an additional classification, not a second prediction.

Taken together, these facts support a traditional reading of capability finding an outlet in responsible work, with acquired skills contributing to that role. Being trusted to lead a difficult piece of work illustrates the interpretation. It is more specific than saying only that Mars means courage or that the tenth means career.

The fragment still does not establish an occupation, promotion or date. Mars's combustion, the influences it receives and the relevant periods have not been supplied. Those facts may qualify the reading; they should not be invented to complete the story.

Avoid counting the same support twice

A sign's ruler and a planet's own-sign dignity can refer to the same relationship. Likewise, an angular own-sign Mars is part of the Ruchaka condition. Repeating each label as an independent promise exaggerates the evidence within the reading.

Use each factor for the question it actually answers. The Mars in Aries guide concerns the sign placement; Mars in the tenth concerns the field of work. Combining them requires a chart that really has both.

Reading traditional language

Terms such as benefic, malefic, strong and debilitated have technical meanings. They are not judgments of someone's character. A yoga name is a rule match, not a guarantee that its traditional promised result will occur.

Traditional interpretations are not established by the precision of the underlying astronomy. Agreement on a position does not establish the accuracy of a prediction. Keep consequential medical, financial or relationship decisions grounded in the relevant real-world evidence.

The starting guide provides routes through the tables; planetary condition and dashas explain two of the main layers.
