Moon in Vedic astrology

The Moon, or Chandra, is associated with the mind, inner responses, contentment and maternal care. Its symbolism concerns how experience is received and what provides a sense of comfort.

Seeking familiar company after a demanding day illustrates that comfort theme. It does not establish an attachment style or mental-health condition. The Moon's placement supplies a traditional reading context, while its measured longitude also has several precise calendar and dasha uses.

Sign relationships

The displayed Moolatrikona range is Taurus, 4° to under 20°. The dignity reference explains how degree ranges take priority over broader sign labels.

Reading the chart

The Moon’s nakshatra selects the starting Vimshottari lord. The remaining part of that nakshatra gives the birth-period balance. Its phase also enters several strength and benefic classifications.

Moon sign is distinct from nakshatra and pada. It is also the natal reference used for Sade Sati, dhaiya and one of the transit table’s house counts. A current Moon position does not replace it.

A schematic Moon at 12° Aries is in Ashwini pada 4. Aries is ruled by Mars, while Ashwini’s Vimshottari lord is Ketu: two different kinds of lordship.

Sign-ruler checks

For placements without a separate guide, this table gives the narrower sign relationship. Natural friendship is read from Moon towards the ruler and need not be mutual. It is separate from the Positions dignity label Neutral and from temporary friendship.

For the combined relationship shown in the chart, see natural and temporary friendship.
