Retrograde and stationary planets in Kundli
A retrograde planet appears to move backwards through zodiac longitude as seen from Earth. It has not reversed its orbit around the Sun. The appearance follows the changing geometry of moving observers and planets.
Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn can receive the R mark. The Sun and Moon do not turn retrograde in this chart's geocentric display. The outer planets can also be retrograde in the additional D1 positions.
Stationary
A station is the turning point where apparent longitude changes direction. A planet can move very slowly around that time without having stopped in space. A rounded daily movement or a single degree label is insufficient to locate the exact turning instant.
panchang.now reports the direction of motion without assigning a separate S mark to slow-moving planets. A retrograde planet keeps its R mark even when its backward motion is very slow.
Rahu and Ketu
The lunar nodes are points rather than bodies. The mean node moves backwards; the true node oscillates and can briefly move forward. D marks that forward motion for Rahu or Ketu. It is not a general mark printed beside every direct planet.
A node-model choice can therefore affect the motion mark as well as a boundary-sensitive position.
Reading motion alongside other factors
Retrograde is separate from exaltation or debilitation. It does not turn a sign into its opposite. It also does not automatically cancel combustion. The tool uses different combustion limits for retrograde Mercury and Venus.
Traditional schools interpret retrogression differently. R alone does not establish delay, failure or a reversal in someone's life. In a transit list, however, a backward sign crossing has a precise positional meaning: the graha re-enters the preceding sign. This can produce repeated visits in the Saturn timeline.
