Planetary conjunctions in Kundli

A conjunction relates two or more grahas close together in the zodiac. In many of this tool's yoga rules, the condition is sharing a sign. That is broader than an exact conjunction at the same degree.

Two positions at 2° and 27° of one sign share that sign but are 25° apart. Positions at 29° of one sign and 1° of the next are only 2° apart yet do not share a sign. These schematic examples show why the rule must state which meaning it uses.

Read the rule and the separation

The Positions table provides degrees. The yoga detail identifies the condition that matched. A same-sign Budhaditya match, for example, is not a claim that the Sun and Mercury have identical longitudes. A separate combustion note can still apply.

Changing the house boundaries in bhava chalit does not change the angular separation. Nor does a conjunction automatically imply that two grahas have the same dignity or house lordship.

Planetary war

The tool reports graha yuddha, or planetary war, for pairs among Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn separated by no more than 1° in longitude. Sun, Moon and the nodes are not eligible for this alert.

The notice names the pair, gives the separation and identifies the graha with the higher ecliptic latitude under the selected convention. Higher means farther north in that coordinate, not brighter, more massive or morally superior. Traditions differ over how to judge the contest.

This alert is distinct from merely occupying the same sign. It is also not a prediction of an argument, accident or conflict in someone's life.

See combustion, graha aspects and yogas for three related but separate conditions.

See the chart and its tables on the Kundli page.
