Kundli guide

The ninth house in Kundli

The ninth house, or Dharma bhava, concerns teachers, guiding principles, religious practice, higher learning, journeys and fortune. It considers the sources of direction a person turns to, rather than measuring whether their beliefs are correct.

Guidance and learning

The fifth house concerns learning and judgment; the ninth adds teachers and the principles through which experience is understood. A teacher, an inherited practice and a chosen course of study illustrate different forms that this broad subject can take.

Many readings also examine the father through the ninth. Other traditions give the tenth a role in that question. The chosen convention needs to be stated before interpreting an apparent disagreement; neither assignment describes an actual parent's character by itself.

Fortune and a trinal role

The ninth is a trikona. Its association with fortune is part of the traditional reading, not a numerical chance of success. A relationship between the ninth and tenth lords connects guidance with action or work and is examined under Dharma-Karmadhipati conditions.

In a Cancer-lagna D1, Pisces is the ninth house and Jupiter rules it. Mars rules the tenth. A claimed connection between these lords therefore needs an actual conjunction, mutual aspect or exchange, not simply the presence of Jupiter somewhere in the chart. See lordship links.

These guides explain each placement and the conditions that qualify its interpretation.
