House lords and dispositors in Kundli
A house lord is the graha ruling the sign assigned to that house. A house occupant is a graha located there. The lord may occupy a different house, and an empty house still has a lord.
Find the ruler
The seven-graha rulership scheme used here is:
| Graha | Signs ruled |
|---|---|
| Sun | Leo |
| Moon | Cancer |
| Mars | Aries, Scorpio |
| Mercury | Gemini, Virgo |
| Jupiter | Sagittarius, Pisces |
| Venus | Taurus, Libra |
| Saturn | Capricorn, Aquarius |
Rahu and Ketu are not added as co-rulers in this house-lord scheme. Some traditions assign them additional roles; those should not be silently substituted into these calculations.
Two schematic examples
With Cancer lagna, Libra is the fourth whole-sign house, so Venus is its lord. With Capricorn lagna, Libra is the tenth house, and Venus rules that tenth house instead. Venus's natural symbolism has not changed, but its house responsibilities have.
To read an occupied house, identify the occupant, the house's ruler, and the ruler's position. A statement about one of these is not automatically true of the others.
Dispositor
A planet's dispositor is the ruler of its occupied sign. Mars in Taurus has Venus as its sign dispositor. This is a schematic relationship, not a complete chart or a claim about its outcome.
An exchange occurs when two grahas occupy each other's signs. The tool lists supported exchanges under yogas. House ownership also helps distinguish natural and functional roles. Lordship alone is not a prediction of how a house topic will unfold.
See the chart and its tables on the Kundli page.
