Mars in Chitra

Designing and making things is a constructive theme in modern readings of Mars in Chitra. The caution is that determination about the result can become an uncompromising way of working with others.

An illustration is investing effort in a workable design for a shared space, then resisting every proposed adjustment. The theme does not guarantee technical skill, originality or professional recognition.

Mars and Chitra

Mars concerns the force used to act, compete and defend. Courage and determination are constructive expressions of its symbolism. Anger and confrontation describe the difficult side of the same emphasis on force.

Chitra (चित्रा) is associated with giving things a distinct form. Its craftsman deity, Tvashtri, and its traditional links with ornament, painting and weaving connect it with design and skilled construction. Appearance and the work required to produce it are both part of the theme. Another Vedic ritual enumeration associates Chitra with Indra. The Tvashtri and Indra assignments are distinct textual associations; neither supplies a separate prediction about a person.

Position, padas and lord

Chitra’s sidereal span is 23°20′ Virgo to 6°40′ Libra. Its four padas each cover 3°20′. The first two padas are in Virgo; the remaining two padas are in Libra. Its Vimshottari lord is Mars. Nakshatra lord, presiding deity and sign ruler are separate roles.

The sign context depends on the actual position: compare Mars in Virgo and Mars in Libra. A reading limited to one sign must stay within that portion of the nakshatra.

The starting boundary is included; the ending boundary belongs to the next nakshatra. The exact degree also identifies the pada. See nakshatra and pada in Kundli for the distinction between the nakshatra lord, sign ruler and house lord.

Reading the whole chart

This guide concerns natal sidereal D1, with whole-sign houses counted from lagna.

These are modern Vedic interpretations of natal Mars. They do not establish a classical consensus or an individual result.

A fuller interpretation also considers Mars’s actual sign and house, its aspects and conjunctions, and the condition of the nakshatra lord.

Use the Mars reference for the graha’s wider meanings and chart conditions. The placement directory brings together its house, sign and nakshatra guides.

See the actual position, pada and house on the Kundli page.
