Dhanteras 2026 - date and puja muhurat

Dhanteras 2026 (Dhantrayodashi) falls on Friday, 6 November 2026.

Dhanteras opens the five days of Diwali. It is observed on Trayodashi (the thirteenth tithi) of Krishna Paksha in the lunar month of Kartika, on the day the tithi prevails during Pradosh Kaal - the period just after sunset. Lakshmi and Kubera are worshipped in the evening, and this is the customary day for buying gold, silver and new utensils.

Why this date

Trayodashi covers Pradosh Kaal in Delhi on 6 November, supporting this date under the evening observance rule. The table gives the full Pradosh interval for each city. Traditions that also require a fixed (sthira) lagna need that condition checked separately; the table does not locate it within the interval.

Yama Deepam - the lamp for Yama placed outside the home - is lit the same evening during Pradosh.
