Karva Chauth 2026 - date and Panchang
Karva Chauth 2026 falls on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
Karva Chauth is a one-day fast traditionally observed by married women for their husbands' wellbeing. It is observed on the Sankashti Chaturthi - the fourth tithi (Chaturthi) of Krishna Paksha in the lunar month of Kartika. The fast is broken after sighting the Moon at moonrise.
The date is set by the Sankashti Chaturthi tithi. Its begin and end times for each city are in the table further down the page.
Puja muhurat
| Event | Time (New Delhi) |
|---|---|
| Karva Chauth Puja Muhurat | 17:38 to 18:56 on 29 Oct |
The puja is performed in the evening before moonrise; the fast (which begins at sunrise) is broken after seeing the Moon.
The fast is traditionally broken after sighting the Moon. The table gives astronomical moonrise for each city; the first visible sighting can be later.
Important note on moonrise time
Moonrise varies by city. Use the calculated table below for the selected location, rather than carrying a Delhi time over to another city. An evening puja window and the Moon's first visible appearance are separate timings.
Moonrise here is the astronomical rise of the Moon at the horizon. Some published calendars list a time a few minutes later, and in practice the Moon becomes visible a little after rising - haze and buildings near the horizon delay the first sighting.
For the precise moonrise and puja timings in your city, check the full Panchang for the day:
- India: Delhi | Mumbai | Bengaluru | Chennai | Kolkata | Hyderabad
- Outside India: London | New York | Singapore | Dubai
- Or pick any city from the home page.
A note on regional observance
- Karva Chauth is observed primarily in North and Northwest India (Punjab, Delhi, Haryana, UP, Rajasthan, parts of MP and Gujarat).
- It is less observed in South India, where similar vrats for spousal wellbeing (such as Kedara Gauri Vratam) follow different dates.
- The fast itself is voluntary and varies in strictness; modern practice is often a partial fast.
Sankashti Chaturthi by city
The tithi begins and ends at a single moment worldwide. What differs is the local clock, so it can fall on a different date in your city.
