Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 - date and Panchang
Ganesh Chaturthi 2026 falls on Monday, 14 September 2026.
Ganesh Chaturthi celebrates the birth of Ganesha and begins Ganeshotsav. It is observed on the fourth tithi (Chaturthi) of Shukla Paksha in Bhadrapada. The puja tradition associates Ganesha's birth with Madhyahna Kaal, the middle part of the day.
Why this date
In Delhi, Chaturthi is active during Madhyahna on 14 September and ends the following morning. Its presence during the midday window, rather than at sunrise alone, supports the 14 September date. The tables below show the tithi boundaries and each city's midday interval separately.
Ganeshotsav and immersion
The festival continues from Chaturthi to Anant Chaturdashi, when many communities perform Ganesh Visarjan (immersion). Although often called a ten-day festival, the interval follows tithis and need not span exactly ten civil days. In 2026 these observances fall on 14 and 25 September.
| Date | Observance |
|---|---|
| 14 Sep 2026 | Ganesh Chaturthi (Sthapana - installation of the idol) |
| 25 Sep 2026 | Anant Chaturdashi / Ganesh Visarjan |
Some households observe a shorter version (1.5, 3, 5 or 7 days) with the visarjan accordingly earlier.

A note on Chandra Darshan
Tradition holds that seeing the Moon on Ganesh Chaturthi evening is inauspicious (the Mithya Dosha or "false accusation" tradition). The Chandra Darshan timing window depends on local moonrise and varies by city.
Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi by city
The tithi begins and ends at a single moment worldwide. What differs is the local clock, so it can fall on a different date in your city.
