Guru Nanak Jayanti 2026 - date and Panchang
Guru Nanak Jayanti 2026 falls on Tuesday, 24 November 2026.
Also called Guru Nanak Gurpurab or Prakash Parv, it marks the birth of Guru Nanak, the first of the ten Sikh Gurus. It is observed on Kartika Purnima, the full Moon of the lunar month of Kartika.
What fixes the date
| Event | Time (New Delhi) |
|---|---|
| Kartika Purnima begins | 23:44 on 23 Nov 2026 |
| Kartika Purnima ends | 20:24 on 24 Nov 2026 |
The observance follows the Purnima tithi rather than a fixed civil date, which is why it moves through November and occasionally into early December.
The observance
The gurpurab is usually preceded by an Akhand Path, a continuous reading of the Guru Granth Sahib completed on the morning of the day itself, and by a Nagar Kirtan procession the day before. On the day, congregations begin early: Asa di Var is sung in the hours before dawn, in the period tradition calls Amrit Vela.
That early window is Brahma Muhurta, the last muhurta before sunrise. It is given per city in the table below, since it follows local sunrise and shifts by hours between cities.

The same full Moon is observed as Kartika Purnima and Dev Deepawali in other traditions, with lamps floated on the ghats at Varanasi. See the Purnima dates for 2026 for the full-Moon days across the year.
