Chhath Puja 2026 - dates and Arghya times
Chhath Puja 2026 runs from Friday, 13 November to Monday, 16 November. The main day, Sandhya Arghya, is Sunday, 15 November 2026.
Chhath is observed for Surya and Chhathi Maiya, mostly in Bihar, Jharkhand, eastern Uttar Pradesh and Nepal. It is a four-day observance built around a fast of unusual length, and the two central rituals are offerings made standing in water to the setting Sun and then to the rising Sun.
The four days
| Date | Day | Tithi | Observance |
|---|---|---|---|
| 13 Nov 2026 | Friday | Chaturthi | Nahay Khay (नहाय खाय) |
| 14 Nov 2026 | Saturday | Panchami | Kharna (खरना), the fast begins after the evening meal |
| 15 Nov 2026 | Sunday | Shashthi | Sandhya Arghya (संध्या अर्घ्य), offering to the setting Sun |
| 16 Nov 2026 | Monday | Saptami | Usha Arghya (उषा अर्घ्य), offering to the rising Sun, and the fast ends |
The observance is fixed to Kartika Shukla Shashthi, which falls on 15 November in 2026. The days either side follow from it.
Why the times matter more here
For most festivals a muhurat is a window inside the day. For Chhath the ritual is the moment itself: the arghya is offered as the Sun sets on Shashthi and again as it rises on Saptami. Sunset on 15 November runs from 16:11 in London to 18:51 in Singapore, a spread of more than two and a half hours, so a single published time is of little use away from the city it was computed for.
The table below gives the Sandhya Arghya sunset for 15 November in each city. For the Usha Arghya on 16 November, the sunrise on that day's own Panchang is the one to use.

A note on the fast
The Chhath fast is kept without water from the evening of Kharna until after the Usha Arghya, close to 36 hours. Local sunrise and sunset therefore set its real length, which is another reason the times below are given per city rather than for one.
Sandhya Arghya muhurat by city

A dash means the window does not occur in that city on this date. Abhijit is absent on Wednesdays, and a moonrise can fall outside the civil day.
